Electronic Mail and The Written Word Imagine a world without cyber culture technology. Picture using telegrams, typewriters, and payphones to connect to the world, sending all correspondence through mail, and leaving messages on home answering machines. At one time, these outdated items were the wave of the future. Mark Twain couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the typewriter. Why aren’t these technical advances not good enough anymore? Why have these ways of communicating become historical artifacts? Most of one’s answer lies in the fact that people are constantly looking for faster, more convenient ways to achieve their goals, and cyber culture does just that. Tools such as e-mail provide one with a way to write and communicate with others in a very convenient way. The world we live in is very fast paced. Tasks such as hand writing and mailing letters have become too time consuming. As Dennis Baron writes in his essay â€Å"From Pencils to Pixels†, â€Å"†¦the physical effort of handwriting, crossing out, revising, cutting and pasting, in short, the writing practices I had been engaged in regularly since the age of four, now seemed to overwhelm and constrict me, and I longed for the flexibility of digitized text† (Tribble and Trubek 36). Besides the troubles of writing a letter, one would then have to stamp and seal the envelope, and rely on the trusty post office to deliver your letter in a timely manner. As essayist Adam Gopnik states, â€Å"Ten years ago, even the most literate of us wrote maybe half a dozen letters a year† (181). Ten years ago, one would have more than likely picked up the phone rather than sit down and write a letter. E-mail, in a way, has digitized the letter. It has created a way where people can conveniently correspond daily. One can e-mail a friend in California, a professor at Eastern, a grandparent in Florida, and a spouse at work all in a matter of minutes. E-mail, in some cases, is the only way people communicate with each other. For example, I have just recently within the past year come into contact again with my best friend from elementary school. Since she travels frequently to other countries for her job, it would be very difficult to keep in touch with her via letters and phone calls.

The first weakness lies in Samsung’s operating strategy. Samsung does not want to establish business relationships with many suppliers, and this is one of the reasons why Samsung’s development is restricted. Even though Samsung defends this by saying that it is better able to protect its intellectual properties this way, in current time’s environment with fierce  competition, companies with more suppliers are more competitive. Thus, Samsung needs to be more flexible in the company’s operating strategies. 2. Another of Samsung’s weaknesses also lies in not targeting low-end consumer market. Samsung focus on product fashion, so the price is relatively high. And Working in the WiBro (Wireless Broadband access service) and DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) market, but return on investment cycle is long. 3. Samsung’s reliance on the Android operating system (OS) is another weakness. Android phones are extremely customizable and they give you the freedom to experiment to your heart’s desire. One inevitable side effect of this freedom, however, is that sometimes your phone encounters a problem or two. Maybe it won’t boot or maybe it randomly shuts down. Gerrymandering Reflection - 951 Words

I think you should know beforehand that this was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life and I’ve passed kidney stones. Yeah, it was that hard†¦ Now that’s out of the way, let’s get to it. Mission Two and Mission Four really develop and strengthen my general understanding on the topic of â€Å"gerrymandering†. I am going to be completely honest, before that day in which we discussed it in class, I didn’t have a single clue to what gerrymandering pertained to. I feel like the videos you provided me helped develop a sense of why â€Å"gerrymandering† is bad and how it affects politics. The redistricting game helped show me how ridiculously one party can take control of the outcome of future elections. I had moved his district a little bit to the left and then added a tumor shaped section to his district and called it a day. That last part in which I drew the tumor shaped section had made his percentages 50% Republican, 48% Democrat, and a whole 2% Undecided. The funniest thing is it was pure luck, it had fell into place. Lastly, we have ole Mark Etz and his oddly shaped district, which I had just left after the aftermath of the formation of the other districts. It’s kind of shaped like the number three, I’m not going to question it because it had finished with 50% Republican, 48% Democrat, and 2% Undecided. This was clearly an attempt to â€Å"Partisan Gerrymander† in favor of the Republican party, which displays unfairness to the Democrats. I believe everyone in poli tics should be able to have a chance at winning, but that’s just too much to ask now-a-days. Onto mission four, which I believe was the easiest of the two. This one had only taken about fifteen minutes to beat, unlike the hour and a half I had spent on mission two.
